Fulfilling the Social Responsibilities and Contributions Expected of a Good Corporate Citizen
Since its foundation, the POLA ORBIS Group remains committed to its long-held spirit to "find happiness in giving happiness" as it strives to build a corporate brand that is loved and trusted by society.
The Group's corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities reflect efforts to cultivate this spirit and to fulfill its responsibilities as a good corporate citizen in contributing to society.
The Start of CSR
Makeup plays a major role in influencing life, from one’s self esteem to how that person lives their life. The purpose of our business is not to provide things, but ways. To responsibly provide each woman with the way to make her beautiful - this is POLA's belief and commitment to society since its foundation. That is to say, POLA's CSR had already begun when our cosmetics business first started.
Since its foundation, POLA remains committed to cultivating its long-held spirit to “find happiness in giving happiness” and to fulfilling its responsibilities as a good corporate citizen in contributing to society. That is the driving force behind POLA’s CSR activities. Based on POLA’s Sustainability Statement, POLA will work to ensure the strict observation of laws and social ethics and to provide its employees with the necessary guidelines in their pursuit of spreading happiness around the world.
POLA Initiative 1
Dialogue with Stakeholders
At POLA, we promote dialogue with external stakeholders to confirm that our corporate activities are in line with the expectations and requirements that society places upon POLA and to identify the products and services that society wants from our group of companies.
POLA Initiative 2
POLA’s efforts to offer customers not only high-quality, highperformance products but also safe and reliable services require rigorous verification of product quality based on quality assurance standards at every stage of the production process, from planning and design to production and distribution.
POLA Initiative 3
Incorporating Customer Feedback
In order to incorporate the opinions and requests from customers regarding POLA products and services, consumer feedback from inquiries is provided on a weekly basis, and regular reporting at monthly management meetings ensure that improvements are being implemented
POLA Initiative 4
Highlighting Employee Personality and
Sustained growth requires each employee to be highly sensitive to changes in society and the market while constantly engaging in the development of abilities. An environment that allows a wide array of human resources to demonstrate their abilities is also essential. At POLA, our human resources strategy involves taking full advantage of every employee’s individuality and sensibilities.
POLA Initiative 5
Maintaining Environmental Awareness
POLA’s environmentally friendly product manufacturing includes voluntary standards such as “Eco-Standard for Contents” and “Eco-Standard for Containers and Packaging” as well as consideration for necessary environmental measures beginning in the planning and design stages. This allows POLA to ensure product manufacturing tailored to the life cycle of the product, from the procurement of raw materials to the disposal of containers after use.
POLA Initiative 6
Cooperating with Local Communities
In 2009, POLA kicked off the “3-9 Project,” an initiative to highlight the essence of Japan’s proud history of monozukuri (manufacturing from a product creation perspective) and to energize local industry through corporate activities. The project name plays on the Japanese reading of “3-9”̶san kyu̶which sounds like “thank you.” In addition, POLA beauty volunteers perform hand massages and provide makeup advice to women in local seniors’ homes and hospitals as well as at community events.
POLA Initiative 7
Supporting Female Employees
Through the cosmetics business, POLA is proud to support the social advancement of women in tune with the changing times.
With initiatives that include expanding opportunities for women and recruiting women to management positions, POLA aims to promote the creation of an environment where women can demonstrate their abilities to the fullest.
In 2014, POLA was awarded the Diversity Management Selection 100 Award (a Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry commendation).
POLA Initiative 8
Balancing Work and Life
POLA is dedicated to supporting employees who strive for a vibrant work life while raising children.
This dedication is evidenced by POLA’s discussions before and upon returning from maternity leave, social gatherings with experienced mothers, work-life balance support system explanatory meetings for administrators, and career design training. In 2010 and 2012, POLA was granted the “Kurumin” certification as a child care support company from the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare.
